Dan Higbie

Do you have any nicknames?
Noodles, bboytambi

Birthday: June 4th

Favorite Color: Purple, but it changes all the time.

Hometown / Where have you lived?
Born in Ocala (boo), but have lived in Orlando and Kissimmee.

When did you become interested in art and design?
About 6. I started doodling with crayons and such as most kids do, and later fell in love with 3d scene and vehicle design.

When did you become interested in creating websites?
After I graduated, I found that my talents really fell in the world of 2d, particularly texture creation and understanding of light and texture, and began using these skills in graphic design.

What is your favorite part of creating a new website?
It is a 50/50 split between the first initial design and the very start of a break out, something about turning nothing into art, be it a blank canvas or empty html page is exciting.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing something I created on the internet, it is a great feeling of accomplishment.

When did you become interested in computers and technology?
About the age of 11. I found out I could draw on a computer and I was hooked.

What piece of technology could you not live without?
The internet, can I answer that broadly. I just did.

What do you like to do on the weekends?
Spend time with my family and work on personal artsy projects.

Do you have any hobbies?
Photography, cars, painting, reading, cooking, and learning.

What are your top three moments in your life so far?
The birth of my daughter, marrying my wife and the beginning of my career.

What is your favorite food / drink?
Food: Home made pizza.
Drink: Dr. Pepper.

What is your favorite musician or type of music?
A lot.

What is your favorite sport? Do you have a favorite team?
Sport: WRC – World Rally Circuit
Team?: Subaru

What are your favorite movies?
The Princess Bride, Anchorman, Iron Man.

What are your favorite books / magazines?
Does http://www.pictorymag.com count?

What are your favorite websites or blogs?
Dribbble, ArtPants, and the Behance Network.

Twitter or Facebook? (and why)
Twitter, it is a more diverse community with less clutter and the ability to reach out to people you don’t know.

Tell us about your family!
Wife: Jennifer = Awesome
Daughter: Sophia = Baby

Do you have any pets?
Dog: Zeus = Lazy

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Italy/Japan

If you couldn’t be a Web Designer anymore, what career would you pursue?
Photography and Auto-X are tied.

If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to fill out surveys with my mind.

How do you think technology and/or web design will change in the next 10-20 years?
Many technologies will exist in the ‘cloud’: items like documents and photos, and many day to day services most people rely on. Providing people with their information from a redundant offsite hosted location combined with new mobile technologies will mean most people will have their ‘computer’ with them everywhere.

What tips would you give to a business that is just starting out with their first website?
Focus on your users, understand them and understand the web. Remember that everyone who visits your site has the purpose to attain something, present it to them in a clear, easy to understand manner. Stay focused on delivering an overall usable experience and your return on investment will be great.
