Emily Stash

Do you have any nicknames?

Em, Stash, Emmy, Meemoe, Mimi…I’m sure you can guess which ones came from my parents…

When is your birthday?

January 15th

Hometown / Where have you lived?

I have lived in the same small town of Kingsland, Georgia my entire life up until I moved to Orlando, Florida after I graduated high school to go to school at Full Sail University.

When did you become interested in art and design?

I have always liked art. It was a way that I could clear my mind for a while doing something that I really enjoyed. It wasn’t until high school though when I started becoming serious about it.

When did you become interested in creating websites?

Freshman year of high school when I took my first design classes.

What is your favorite part of creating a new website?

Bringing out the potential of the company/person in which you’re making it for, in a way that catches peoples’ eye and grabs their attention enough to want to learn more about that company/person.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Bringing out exactly what the client wanted and imagined for their site and then some. Wowing them with something they didn’t even know they wanted in their design until they saw it in action.

When did you become interested in computers and technology?

Freshman year in high school.

What piece of technology could you not live without?

Literally speaking my kitchen appliances because I would go hungry! Figuratively, my cell phone and by that I mean the Google Maps app…I have no sense of direction.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

When I’m feeling lazy I like to watch Netflix, go longboarding, look up various tutorials on YouTube, read design/fiction/inspirational books. When I actually make plans I like to go out with friends, go to the flea market/antique shops, go to the dog park, or the mall, just get out and meet new people wherever I can.

Do you have any hobbies?

Other than specifically design I love photography and have been warned not to make it my full time job because I will end up hating it (though I doubt that). I also like to longboard, and if I were closer to the beach I would learn other board sports like skim boarding and surfing.

What are your top three moments in your life so far?

If I had to pick three top moments it would be playing softball at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney for a whole week playing teams from all over the world, graduating college with a bachelors degree at the age of 20, and getting a job in the actual field I studied in college!

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color has always been blue, but I do own a LOT of green things as well.

What is your favorite food / drink?

I love bread! Kind of a weird favorite food, but that’s okay! My favorite drinks are Dr. Pepper and Sweet Tea.

What is your favorite musician or type of music?

I always say that I love all music, because I really do. That doesn’t mean that I love every song and every band/musician though! If I had to pick a favorite it would be rock/alternative rock for sure.

What is your favorite sport? Do you have a favorite team?

My favorite sport to play is softball, and to watch…college softball haha Go, DAWGS!

What are your favorite TV shows?

The Walking Dead, How I met Your Mother, House M.D., Orange is the New Black, Wilfred… I watch a lot of Netflix…

What are your favorite movies?

Marvel Everything. The Iron Mans are my favorite. Also Taken, Tangled, She’s the Man, and The Hunger Games series to name a few.

What are your favorite books / magazines?

I am currently reading The Four Agreements which is really good. My favorite book which has recently been completely ruined by the movie is The Host written by Stephanie Meyer. Yes, she also wrote Twilight… don’t judge until you read it! Haha

What are your favorite websites or blogs?

I love onepagelove.com, pinterest.com, awwwards.com, basically any site that I can get some good inspiration!

Twitter or Facebook? (and why)

Facebook, because I don’t care to follow mindless celebrities. I’d rather follow my friends and family. Also Facebook is more personal which is important when you’re trying to stay in touch with people.

Tell us about your family!

My parents just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this June! So… go them! I have an older brother who is going to graduate from Georgia Southern this coming May. And I have an identical twin sister who graduated from Aveda, a cosmetology school, and now works at Aura Salon on Jacksonville, Florida. Go get your hair cut from her, she’s awesome!

Do you have any pets?

We have the family dog a miniature schnauzer, Finn, who is a stubborn, silly boy but I love him. I do plan on getting a dog of my own though soon!

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I want to travel the United States. Go west and see the mountains. Then go to Europe and backpack around for a while. Go wherever I end up going! Who needs plans?!

If you couldn’t be a graphic designer anymore, what career would you pursue?

I would want to open up a shop, and I’ve thought about so many, my own Doggie Day Care Center, my own softball complex, my own coffee shop, things like that. But of course I would do my own branding for it as well!

If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?

I would definitely want the power of being able to learn anything on the spot. I don’t want to save the world; I just want to be awesome.

How do you think technology and/or web design will change in the next 10-20 years?

There’s no telling! It has already changed SO MUCH since the computer started going into peoples’ homes!

What tips would you give to a business that is just starting out with their first website?

You want your website to reflect the personality of your business for sure. People go to your website to see if you are worth their business in the first place and if you have an awesome, fun amazing business and your website is flat and boring, your potential clients are going to think your business is boring by default and go on searching for someone else.
