When did you become interested in art and design?

When I was young I always loved science fiction, so I would doodle in school and at home all kinds of spaceships and space scenery. You would see me making laser sounds and explosions in the corner of the classroom. In the 7th grade I was awarded an art scholarship to the New England Institute of Art Summer Course. Fast forward, when the internet was released to the masses, I jumped right into html and graphic design.

When did you become interested in creating websites?

In 1994, my Dad and I saw the potential of doing business on the internet, so I built a web site selling how-to-videos in VHS. Our first order was from Japan!

I’d say creating graphics and copy writing.

Exceeding a client’s expectations!

When did you become interested in computers and technology?

My first exposure to computing was the Commodore 64. In high school, we worked with Apple II’s to program them to make drawings in 1’s and 0’s in DOS. But certainly when the internet made its debut, I was learning everything I could.

Well there is plenty of technology out there right now that I want, but am living without.
But to answer the question – my cell phone.

Oh, I moonlight as a government agent in Europe attending exorbitant parties of the elite! When I have time, I like to travel. Play paintball, golf, go to shooting range, bike ride, eat out and go to movies.

I would just go full time as a government agent 😉

If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?

The power to convert bullies into nice people.

How do you think technology and/or web design will change in the next 10-20 years?

There will be what’s called “Internet of Things” meaning, now that we have switched over to IPv6, we now have enough ip addresses to assign every object in the world and connect them to the Internet. This means tracking location and sensory information for the smallest of objects. You think Facebook is TMI about people’s lives? Wait until someone’s coffee cup automatically posts how hot one’s coffee is and how much he or she has left to drink, or maybe a medical sensor posts all the vitals of someone to his or her profile. You may ask why people would want to do that? Didn’t we wonder why at one point would someone text someone rather than talk on the phone?

What tips would you give to a business that is just starting out with their first website?

To be sure they place a high priority on their website because it will be one of the most important facets of their business’s advertising strategy, next to word of mouth. Why?
A business website is ultimately for acquiring leads and converting them to customers (imho ).
Today, a business without a website is like having a boat without a paddle. Sure, there are offline methods of “interruption advertising”, such as billboards and busses, but now such methods are more effective at building brand awareness rather than getting actual leads, much less, qualified ones. Whereas, a web site is like having that billboard on the street, but the difference is that you have a street full of people who specifically want what you provide!
